Chobe National Park covers around 11'700 square kilometres in northern Botswana and is especially known for the Chobe Riverfront near Kasane. During the dry season, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators gather along the river, creating some of the most impressive wildlife scenes in Southern Africa.

The park is more diverse than the riverfront alone. Savuti is known for predators and changing marshland, while the Linyanti region offers remote wilderness and beautiful riverine habitats. Together, these areas make Chobe a flexible safari destination for both short stays and longer Botswana journeys.

Chobe is also easy to combine with Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta and neighbouring safari regions. For many travellers, it is the perfect place to experience both classic game drives and relaxed boat safaris.

Wildlife in Chobe National Park

Chobe is famous for elephants, and sightings can be spectacular, especially along the riverfront in the dry season. Large buffalo herds, giraffes, zebras, sable antelopes, kudus and water-dependent species are also frequently seen.

Lions are present throughout the park, with particularly exciting encounters in the Savuti region. Leopards, spotted hyenas, jackals, crocodiles and hippos add to the variety.

The river environment is excellent for bird watching. African fish eagles, kingfishers, bee-eaters, herons and many seasonal waterbirds make boat safaris especially rewarding.
