Lioness at the water in Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve protects one of the most beautiful parts of the Okavango Delta. Lagoons, floodplains, mopane woodland and palm islands create a safari region with an exceptional mix of scenery, wildlife and classic Botswana wilderness.

Moremi Game Reserve lies on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and covers around 4'870 square kilometres. It includes parts of Chief’s Island, the Moremi Tongue and the well-known Khwai area, where permanent water meets dry woodland and open plains.

This diversity makes Moremi one of Botswana’s most rewarding safari destinations. Elephants move between floodplains and forest, predators patrol the edges of lagoons, and the changing water levels constantly reshape the landscape.

Moremi is also a strong choice for travellers who want a classic game-drive safari with a wild, authentic feel. Depending on the area and lodge, it can be combined with boat trips, mokoro excursions and private concession experiences nearby.

Wildlife in Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi is one of the best places in Botswana for varied wildlife viewing. Elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos and many antelope species can be seen in the reserve, often against beautiful wetland backdrops.

The predator density is excellent. Lions are regularly observed, leopards are present in wooded areas, and African wild dogs are among the region’s most sought-after sightings. Spotted hyenas and jackals are also part of the ecosystem.

The birdlife is equally rewarding, with fish eagles, hornbills, herons, storks and many colourful waterbirds around the lagoons and floodplains.
