Table Mountain National Park stretches over around 70 kilometers along the Cape Peninsula, from Signal Hill and Table Mountain in the north to Cape Point in the south. It protects not only some of South Africa’s most famous landmarks, but also an exceptional variety of landscapes, from rugged coastlines and white sandy beaches to steep mountain slopes and fynbos-covered plains. Fynbos is a unique type of vegetation found only in southern Africa.

The park forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the most biodiverse plant regions in the world. Many species found here exist nowhere else on earth, making Table Mountain National Park particularly important from an ecological perspective. At the same time, the park includes many iconic locations such as Table Mountain, Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope, Lion’s Head, Silvermine and the Boulders Penguin Colony.

This combination of nature, coastline, unique flora and close proximity to Cape Town makes Table Mountain National Park an ideal destination for travellers who want to combine spectacular scenery, active experiences and world-famous highlights on their South Africa journey.

The Penguins of Boulders Beach

The Boulders Penguin Colony is one of the most famous attractions in Table Mountain National Park and one of the few places in the world where African penguins can be observed up close. The colony is located between large granite boulders near Simon’s Town, offering sheltered bays and sandy areas that provide ideal conditions for this endangered species.

What makes this place particularly special is the combination of wildlife and spectacular scenery. Between bright sand, rounded granite rocks and turquoise water, penguins can be seen waddling, swimming and nesting. For many travellers, Boulders Beach is far more than just a beautiful beach, it is one of the most memorable nature experiences around Cape Town.
